yah, what beefy said was what i was attempting to put across within my half hour break between classes. And the whole thing with no new ideas, was that the general formula for what the gamer market responds to as far as a plot, is extremely over exploited and although graphics and sound, gameplay, blah, blah, will get better, and small changes in the beginning of a story will drastically change the ending and characters will add their own touches to stories....... im speaking in terms of games that have story lines.... (i mean theres not much you can change other than graphics and whatnot in reality sports games, where set rules and the laws of physics reign.)
And types of games which were discussed earlier, have a huge market so the companies exploit them more.
(if more people liked trying to press a button as soon as a white square blinked on the screen than first person shooters, we would have very few, if any new first person shooters, with an over abundance of games that had you press a button (with each game maybe having its own button) and maybe the flashing white square would sometimes be red, or instead of a square.... it was an oval.......)
I also agree with the statement that no platform should or really can be compared with another one, as each system has its own targeted audience (xbox and budweiser are working together to put xbox's in bars for people to play, nintendo being cheaper, with the average game developed for it having characters with over-exagerated emotions and bubbly appearances, have targeted younger audiences..... sony on the other hand has grasped the mid teens to mid twenties audience with its large base of RPG games, or games that have somewhat more lifelike appearances, more developed story lines (not always), and charactors usually in the relative age group and mind state as thayt audience.) also, even the s verson of the xbox controller would not work well for a younger child, the gamecube has taken on a playstation-like controller, with a design that would suit the general 'feel' of a childs play area. while xbox and playstation have more (entertainment system- looking) designs.
Have no doubt, although i do not own an X-box, i do play my friends on a regular basis and enjoy it. But its lack of RPG game base which is 90% of my game purchases made the xbox economically not feasable at the moment for me, as my general funding goes toward college, RPG's, and pc hardware. And um one other thing just to protect myself from some anal retentive a** who doesnt realize that a targeted audience is not the entire audience. I know there are people who do not fit in the targeted audience that have, or love their system, and defy all bounds, and i dont have anything against them or their system. I just wrote the post to ensure however many people that read it, understand that any of the systems will probably make them happy, as there is at least one of each game type for all of the systems respectively, but when they decide they really like their system. They can have enough respect for other gamers with a different taste for games. Essentially, pull your head out of your butt far enough to realize that the rest of the world is not exactly like you, and if they were, youd prolly get pretty pissed, cuz every game you wanted would be out of stock cuz someone else richer than you would have bought it...... and im pretty sure that there are many people richer than all of us (at least me).
So uh.... now that im done offending tons of new owners of a console or pc..... although quite violent..... anything stated previous was in no way meant to offend anyone.... just..... better understood by my targeted audience............ :thumb:
if all else fails, quote Groucho Marx
"Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know. "
