You may need a SATA driver installed during the Knoppix installation so that Linux can find your drive. I know my motherboard driver disk has linux drivers in addition to the Windows drivers. ..."Press F6 if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver" is the Windows method during install... . It's been awhile since I installed any version of Linux but I believe there is prolly an option at some point during install to use a floppy (or USB) to install the necessary drivers.
