Unhappy iaStor0, did not respond within the timeout period

Hi,

My system:

GA-965P-DS3P
Core 2 Duo 4300
2Gb Gskill DDR2
Western digital 1TB WD10EACS and 500GB WD5000AAKS
pioneer 215bk sata dvd writer
600 watt zalman PSU
Vista home premium Sp1

The problem:

I was running windows 2000 with the above setup and i started to get
event id 11 errors in my log such as "The driver detected a controller error on\Device\Ide\IdePort1" i could find no reason for these errors, but they caused me no problem.

I then upgraded my Os to vista and now i have event id 9 problems giving the error "The device, \Device\Ide\iaStor0, did not respond within the timeout period." It happens most when dealing with large files, unzipping copying etc, the pc will freeze for five minutes with the hard drive activity indicator light on. After the five minutes the pc returns to normal leaving the event id 9 in the event log. I have installed Vista with AHCI enabled and in IDE mode it makes no difference.

I have update the bios from F5 to F6g the error is the same with both. I am installing vista with the latest drivers from intels site and installing the Intel matrix driver 7.8 after the install of vista. I have tried two different dvd drives both on the intel controller and the Jmicron. Right now my hard drives are on the ICH8R and my dvd drive on the Jmicron(Jmicron is in ide mode). I have tried running each hard drive by itself with no change to the error.

Its driving me to distraction please help :)

Thank you
