Default Re: Problems with GA-EP43-DS3L and 2x2GB memory

Hello. I've just joined these forums and wanted to share my experience with other users who seem to be having similar problems. I think, but I'm not 100% sure yet, that the problems are resolved.

I used this board on a new build initially with Vista 32-bit, 2x2gb G.Skill 8500 memory, which is supposed to run at 5-5-5-15 with 2.0v to 2.1v, and a Wolfdale E8500 processor. I updated bios from F3 to F6 soon after the build. I had terrible problems with multiple rebooting and BSOD's. Also, memory speed as reported by CPU-Z would not run better than 5-7-7-24. All symptoms were better with only 1 stick in, but still unstable and not right.

Updated to bios F7 and also bought another set of the same memory. Same problems. Bought a second Gigabyte GA-EP45-D3SL motherboard and swapped it in. Same problems. Bought a 2x2GB set of Corsair TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF. Same problems. Was just about to RMA the ASUS Radeon 4850 graphics card. . .

Updated to bios F9d, which was posted only for a short while. PROBLEMS virtually GONE!! Still a BSOD occasionally, but very rare now. Memory runs at rated 5-5-5-15 speed using 2.1v.

Now the most recently posted bios is F8. I tried it but was not 100% stable, so I went back to the F9d. (Both F8 and F9d have the same description - an update to fix issues with higher speed memory - they may in fact be the same bios versions, not sure.) System is running very well now.

My conclusion is, of course, that the earlier bios versions needed to address some memory issues. I am very pleased now about how the system runs.
