I'm still tinkering with ways to reduce heat. CPU PLL is 1.55, all the gains are low to mid and DVID +0.015. Running EIST, all that stuff so idle volts stay around .9-1.0.
Wazza it's running about 10-12 degrees cooler than the Noctua. Some of that is probably because I keep trying to reduce the OC voltage. In a half hour small fft I think the max temp was about 73-75.
Right now I'm about 30 minutes into a custom Prime 95 torture test with 90% memory used/10 minutes and 72 is max.
The volts are running around 1.260 @ 45X.

10-12c cooler than a noctua is great, those temps are fine for that cpu,id say anything below 80c is ok,similar to the i7 920's

I think max temp I saw was 86-87 on a 12 hour Prime 95 with the Noctua.
I'm pretty happy so far. There's so many ways to approach a mid overclock like 4.5 with this board, it's very easy but at the same time challenging to keep voltage down so temps stay down. I think I got one of those "in between" cpu's this time, not the best vid but not the worst by a fair bit.
Looking around the net it seems like everybody is jumping into overclocking with the Z77 boards, very impatient and won't take time to try and learn anything on their own. I'm all about getting help when I need it, but I don't understand why so many in a rush and want someone to tell them how to do everything. I'm taking the time to enjoy my rig and taking baby steps.
