Problems with the external USB 3 port on case.

I have a Z77 Extreme4 motherboard and a Corsair 550D case.
The cabinet has two usb 3.0 ports on the front panel I/O, but only one works.
I assume that the problem is not the I/O of the case, because I received not one, but TWO replacement.
So I've tried a total of three front panel I/O, and I have always same problem.
What are your suggestions? Can be a problem in Bios settings?
I've 2.0 UEFI and latest versions for all drivers.

The front panel USB 3.0 header is one header with pins for two ports.

Most cases have a single molded plug with two wires, is this plug one solid piece ? can't see it on the pic of your case.

Are you sure the plug is correct to the header direction, pins lined up ?


The BIOS under advanced has two options for USB 3.0, one is enabled and disabled, on or off.

The second is legacy support enabled, or disabled- this means older hardware USB 2.0 might not be seen.

Check the settings.

If the settings are both enabled, and the plug is in the correct direction, then the motherboard has one bad single header out of the DBL header, and this would mean you would need to
contact support and have them repair the board.

There's another thread on here where people have issue with the USB 3.0 I/O Panel on that particular case. Many have contacted Corsair and received a new I/O panel that corrects the issue.

IMO, Corsair rushed their internal header to market. It wasn't just two months ago that every Corsair case that offered USB 3.0 on the front, did so by using a passthrough cable as opposed to a motherboard header cable. This problem is not unique to the Extreme4, but to USB 3.0 MB headers in general, and it appears Corsair didn't wire something write.

Siegfried, You may have noticed that my replacement board for the USB 3.0 front panel headers for my Corsair 500R case worked, and is still working.

IMO, it is important for you to keep after Corsair about your continuing issue, otherwise nothing may ever be done. They'll assume all is well unless you bring it up again and again. Let them pay to ship it to you, I paid nothing at all for mine.

Amen to that, when their PSU shorted out my MOBO and fried the 24p pw, it took a few emails but I received a new PSU, they also said they would pay half of the board, I got so sick of waiting and sending mail I just gave up getting anything. I love the Seasonic's I buy now with Platinum PLUS. :)
