Default Lag when reading from harddrives

I made a new build with a asrock z77 extreme 4 and i put my 2 storage drives from my old PC in it and installed windows on a new crucial M4 ssd. When i try to open the storage drives under my computer i sometimes get a green progress bar that takes a bit to load. I tried turning indexing off, setting folder type to general n so on and the problem still occurs. I also noticed with winamp that when i click on it and scroll down and it has to load the duration of the songs winamp becomes unresponsive for a few seconds. I didn't have these problems with my old computer that used these same exact drives so i was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem. I am currently using all the newest drivers from the asrock site and would love any suggestions on fixing this.

Also is there any particular sata ports i should be using for storage drives?

I also noticed my PS3 Media Server is also much slower on loading the list of files. Anyone have any ideas at all?

Try this go to the folder click “tools” then click “folder options” then click “search” then click “what to search” here you will find a few options of how to speed up the process.

What are the brand and model names for each hard drive?
Which sata ports are each of the drives connected to?

The green progress bar you saw indicates that the drive is sleeping, in a low power mode, and is taking some time to wake up. Indexing and folder type has nothing to do with it. I don't know what OS you used on your old board, but you need to tune some Windows power options.

You can either set the power plan to High Performance, or click the Change advanced options and find Hard Disk. Set the Turn hard disk off after: to Never, or whatever you feel is appropriate. Your other PC apparently had this set, or did not have the option.

Have you enabled any power saving option in the UEFI or elsewhere? That could also affect your drives.
