Underclocked memory problem with Asrock Z77 Extreme4

Hello,

I recently bough some components and built up a new PC, and I have a problem.

I'm using this memory - CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 Desktop Memory Model CMZ16GX3M4A2133C11B, which is not officially supported for the given Motherboard (Z77 Extreme4). As you see it's frequency is 2133mhz(1066mhz) and 11-11-11-30 timings C11, but actually it runs at 1333mhz(667mhz) with 5-5-5-17 and 6-7-7-20 timings. I have tried different configurations through BIOS with set XMP profile 1.3 with 2133mhz speed, or AUTO ones, in both cases I cannot manually change any record in DRAM Configuration area. Even the memory is displayed with the right values and timings in UEFI, it's still runing at lower frequency. I'm also using i7-3770k which at least supports 1600mhz DDR3.

Is there a way somehow to overclock the memory to run at it's original speed? Is there a way to set some sort of FSB:DRAM ratio, my old motherboard had such option in BIOS, but this has not? CPU-Z reports such FSB:DRAM ratio as 1:8. Is this problem is due only to the reason that the memory is unsupported? Should I overclock the CPU or increase FSB in order to increase memory speed? Please help me out! Thanks in advance!

you shouldt adjust bclk,only cpu multiplier to oc

for ram just set the memory multiplier or speed to 2133mhz in the bios,might need to up the dram voltage for 2133mhz speed,set xmp and see how much dram voltage is used and try one or two clicks more,could be bios issue with that ram if its not letting you adjust it

If your memory is not on the QVL list for your board, it's not surprising that it's not working right. Mother boards have become very picky about the memory they will work with, which started with Intel boards newer than socket 775, and it's getting worse with every generation. IMO, ASR boards are more forgiving than others, but they can only do so much, the memory controller in the CPU is the main cause.

Sandy Bridge CPUs do not have a FSB/DRAM ratio that can be set, like older Intel CPUs did. As wazza said, you can't change the BCLK to OC your memory.

If you can't change anything in the DRAM settings menu, you are probably out of luck.

I have some Gskill Sniper low voltage memory that I am running in a Asus MB. The memory is 1600 and says 1.25 volts. It works correctly in another Asus MB (the sabertooth Z77) with a XMP profile, in it's current board (P8H77V) it will NOT work with the XMP profile, or any combination of settings that tries to get it to 1600. It works fine at 1333 and 1.5 volts. This particular memory is NOT in the QVL for either motherboard. Just providing as an example that you really should use QVL memory is you expect it to work as advertised.
