Only 2048 MB recognized of 3GB hard drive

Hello everyone. I know it's probably posted somewhere, but I can't find it. I just bought a 3 GB Seagate Hard Drive (ST3000DM001). The Z68 Extreme 4 only recognizes 2048 GB and 768 GB is unallocated and can't be formatted (all commands, including "new simple volume" are greyed out). When the computer boots up it says it has bios verion 7.4.05. All drivers are updated. What else can I do?

Ah yes, the "to big" HDD, but there is a cure for that, here:

ASRock > Z68 Extreme4 Gen3

You're looking for ASRock 3TB+ Unlocker Utility ver:1.0, which is the first entry in the Utilities section, assuming you are using Windows 7 64bit. Download and run it, reboot and things should be better.

I have the same problem with the same drive and a Z77 Pro4 Motherboard. After installing screen says use icons but the only icons I see are in programs menu to uninstall 3TB+Unlocker. I can't find any other documentation and I still can't use the rest of my 3TB drive on Windows7 32 or 64 bit installations. Any ideas?

Make sure you format the drive with a GPT partition table rather than MBR.
