Default ASRock N68-S cpu compatibility question

I currently have the above mentioned motherboard with a Athlon LE-1640 and i want to put in a new Athlon 2 x2 270 3.4 Ghz CPU but in the cpu compatibility list the highest frequency supported at the time with the latest P2.10 bios was the Athlon 2 x2 260 3.2 Ghz. Since no new bios versions were released will the new x2 270 be supported or do i have to stick with the 260 as the limit ?

If your CPU is supported by your motherboard(at compatbility),you are good to go...if it's not - you're not.

Thanks for your reply but i already checked that list, also checked other forums as there is also a Phenom 2 x2 model that falls in my category and the closest i got to an answer was something like it should work in theory because they are only separated by 1 clock multiplier and are both C3 revisions so i have no ideea what to do.

Well then...your CPU is not in motherboard compatbility settings.
If you want, you can put your Athlon 2 x2 270 3.4 Ghz. Risk free.

If you want to make it risk free, then stick to your motherboard's CPU compatibility

    ASRock > N68-S

    Simple and easy.

Send a PM to "ASRock TSD - Emily" using THIS link and ask her. Or provide the linkage to this page in the PM. Either will work.

If I were to guess, seeings the 260 was released 2nd qtr of 2010 and the 270 released way later in 2nd qtr 2011 ASRock probably needs to simply update the supported cpu list. There specs look the same with the exception of their multiplier, 16 vs 17.

If she answers yes it is supported, you'd most likely be required/want/need to update to bios P1.30 before placing the 270 in the board. Keep that in mind before lifting your 1640.

BUT WAIT UNTIL EMILY RESPONDS WITH AN OFFICIAL ANSWER BEFORE PURCHASING THE 270.
