Default Problem with DVI port on AsRock FM2A55M-DGS

    Hi,

I have just put a build together using this board and for some reason none of my DVI cables plug into it. They have all worked fine on the DVI port from an Acer Veriton L410 and the output from a geforce 6600gt so i'm a little confused, It almost seems like the horizontal notch isnt large enough for that part of the cable. I'm probably being really stupid here but does anyone have any ideas? Ive got it connected by vga at the moment, but that is definitely not ideal.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The DVI port on the MB looks to be DVI-D Dual Link, which is digital out only

The DVI port on the Veriton looks to be DVI-I Dual Link, which is digital and analog out.
(My pic for reference, bottom one on the side of the page Acer VERITON L410 idealny do biura - Sprzedajemy.pl)

My guess is if you look closer at the cable(s) you have you'll notice 4 analog "pins', 2 pins each above and below the analog ground(horizontal notch you call it) pin.

Wardog and you are correct, that "blade" style pin is made larger on a cable that supports an analog connection. That is done to prevent the wrong cable from being used with a digital only output. Your cable is DVI-I (digital + analog), but the video output of the board is just DVI-D, digital only.

You need a DVI-D cable, or an adapter, if it exists.

Thanks for the replies, feel a bit stupid I hadnt even considered that.

I can get an adapter from dvi-d to vga for less than a pound so i will grab one and give it a go, although I have a strange feeling that ill have to stick with vga output to the screen Im using as it doesnt support a digital input ( i dont think)

    Thanks again for your help.
