Z77 Extreme4, usb 3.0 (USB3_01) sees drives (thumb), but not devices? am I missing something?

the two USB 3.0 ports on the top usb 3.0 (USB3_01),
I plugged in portable HD drive and thumb drives,
it works fine, the thumb drive is 2.0, the portable drive is usb 3.0.

but when I plug in a device (keyboard, mouse) not usb 3.0,
it doesn't recognize it.

The other (USB3_2_3) works, as well as the USB header works with my keyboard, mouse, and other devices.

I'm running Win7 64bit.

I have the same board as you, with Win7 64bit. I just tested a USB mouse in the top USB 3.0 ports you described, and it worked fine. It was a simple Microsoft mouse, and when connected I see the popup message about loading a driver for it. What mouse and keyboard did you try on those USB 3.0 ports?

Don't forget this board has two separate USB 3.0 interfaces, one from the Intel Z77 chipset, the other from the ASMedia ASM1042 chip. I believe the top USB 3.0 ports are connected to the ASMedia chip. Do you have the ASMedia USB 3.0 driver installed?
