P67 Extreme 4 - replacing processor. BIOS flash question

Hi all

I managed to kill the processor I was running on my extreme4 on friday. I had been running a i5-2500k overclocked to 4GHz and I think that after a week of compressing video files it finally overcooked and died - system no longer boots and Dr debug shows 23, the only reference to which I found via google indicates a dead processor. the blocked processor heatsink almost certainly didn't help.

So, I need a new chip and am looking at the ivybridge equivelent to what I had (i5-3570k), which has been supported since BIOS 3.1. Only problem is I can't remember whether I flashed to the lastet BIOS or not before my i5-2500k died.

So, my question is, if I install the ivybridge i5-3570k and I am running an older BIOS, will I be able to boot to the UEFI to flash the BIOS ? Or am I limited to the sandybridge architecture until I flash ?

Well if you cant remember, look at it logically

1.can you read any of your discs on another computer? or If you put all your bios updates on a usb stick(allways a good idea) the stick should be easy to read.

If you have a windows bios update app or a flash bios version with the digits 3.1 in it ,chances are youve updated to that.
You wouldnt download it just to examine it.

2.The gen 3 uefi screens are blue.the gen 2 uefi screens are greenish and fewer stars n balloons!.

If your uefi ,from the last time you looked at it looked like the first 4..then you updated to 3.1.If it looked like the last 2 you didnt.

Aside from that..just have to "suck it n see"
