Something is loose or the back of your motherboard could be shorting on the case.
Assemble the system outside the case and check.
Hi all,
I've been working on a new build for two days and this problem has befuddled me. The system boots and remains steady as long as the case is not moved in the slightest. A simple tap or the slightest movement of the case crashes and locks the system requiring a power shut-down and a reboot. Tapping the Hudson-D4 chip has the same effect. The problem occurs while in the BIOS setup utility or in WIN 7. I'm guessing that it could be a cold solder joint or loose connection... but where to look? Should I just RMA this sucker?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
My System build:
ASRock FM2A85X Extreme6 Bios P1.60-15A
AMD A10-5800K APU 3.8Gh
GSKILL F3-1600C9CD-16GXM R
WD Blue 1 TB - WD10EZEX
Lite-On Super AllWrite 24X SATA DVD+/-RW
Corsair Carbide Series 200R
Cooler Master RS700
Dell UltraSharp U2412M
WIN 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Something is loose or the back of your motherboard could be shorting on the case.
Assemble the system outside the case and check.

It might be a power supply issue.
Can you test with another power supply when you test your system outside of your computer case?
Make sure that each of the 24-pin psu wires are securely attached to the motherboard connector and that none of the wires are loose.

Thank you guys for your great advise. I reinstalled the MB a few times until there were no shorts when tapped or shaken. Frankly, I have no clue what was shorting it since the standoffs kept it from contacting the case.
Anyway, it works now and I'm happy.
Thanks again!
You're welcome, glad to hear that you "magically" fixed the intermittent short circuit.
Sometimes this problem is in the I/O rear panel area.
In another thread, the problem was a computer case that was slightly distorted near the rear I/O panel.
