If using as a Server I believe you'll find drivers in-the-box.

Otherwise grab the Win 8.1 ones.

Are you sure/did you look that they're not in-the-box std Server 2012 R2 drivers available?? In-the-box meaning look to install them through the Properties>Driver tab>Update Driver then Search Automatically ?

I just now uploaded the 82583V rel18.6 dated Aug 9 2013 "PROWinx64_18.6.rar" that I had saved here for use with 2012 R2. As I didn't end up installing R2 on that box I offer them on a "should work' basis. I believe 18.6 was the last Intel offered the 82583V driver for/as 2012 R2 is as far as I'm reading now only available in-the-box.

Anyways, if you'd try in-the-box steps I pointed out earlier that'd be great. Otherwise HERE's the dated PROWinx64_18.6.rar files I just uploaded

And please come back and let us know just what means you ended up finding worked.

thanks fro coming back to me wardog, i have tried these drivers and in-the-box. both don't work.

    any other ideas?

i have had a email back from Asrock saying the follow
    "Hello,

Windows Server 2012 R2 is not officially supported on this motherboard. The motherboard and the AMD chipset that it uses are designed for desktop platforms. So even AMD does not offer specific Windows Server 2012 R2 drivers for the chipset.

Some drivers are already integrated in Win2012R2.

The only Intel 82583V related downloads for Win2012R2 that I could find are:
    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Ethernet+Components&ProductLine=Ethernet+Controllers&ProductProduct=Intel%C2%AE+82583V+Gigabit+Ethernet+Controller&ProdId=3147&LineId=976&FamilyId=2280
No drivers. And if manufacturer Intel does not provide any drivers then we cannot offer them either. Sorry.

Adding a PCI/PCIe NIC might be an option.

    Best regards,
    ASRock Support"

i have tried everything they have said but these dont work. looks like i might need to buy a pci/pcie Nic card.

I'm impressed. Who ever it was at ASRock that responded went above an beyond what most replies would have consisted of time-wise to have gone to the Intel site and link like they did.

Hmmm, Have you tried the brute force means to get them to install?

Manually unpack the ProWinx64.exe to a directory all it's own on the root of any drive. ie: x:\ProWinx64
In Dev Mgr Uninstall what is currently shown for the NIC, and its drivers if asked, then do Refresh
When the Refresh finds the NIC anew and asks of drivers point it to the x:\ProWinx64 dir you created earlier

I'm not out of ideas. I'm trying my damnest to give you suggestions that I try here BEFORE you make me tear down that server, install 2012 R2, and putz with drivers and or inf's here to get this remedied for you. :)

Isn't there an INF file "hack" that allows the Intel driver installation for WHS 2012? I thought there was a thread about this not to long ago here.

Yea, an A88X/USB 3.0 one where I edited and provided drivers for. But have you seen the amount of inf's in an Intel NIC install dist before? I'm sure you have and just forgot. Lots and lots, choose the dir of choice, there only three with what looks like 7-10 inf's within each with which to choose.

WHS 2011 is based of off Server 2008 R2 anyways, not 2012 R2. That'd be too easy.
