    Question FM2A88X-ITX: WLAN Issue

    Hello,

So I have the Windows 8.1 64bit ver:10.0.0.263 wlan driver from ASROCK installed on my fm2a88x-itx system and I am having this issue with the download speed of my internet decreasing. So normally, after a fresh install of the drivers, my throughput is 30mb/s down and 2.4 up, but after an application is installed on the computer or windows updates(not sure if this is the cause but I have noticed this issue occurring around the time something was installed); I find that the internet is moving slowly. So using speedtest.net, I do a test and see that my speed has decreased to 2mb/s down and 2.4up.

So I wanted to know if anyone seeing this same issue or knew how to correct this. The current solution now is to re-install the drivers every time I notice a slow down, but this is not very efficient and quit annoying.

Also if this is a driver problem does anyone know where to get a newer version. I tried Qualcomm's site, but hard to tell which drivers will work.

    Thanks

In looking at the below two pages I'd say you want the latest Atheros/Bigfoot 1202 WLAN drivers found HERE

Page showing it as an Atheros AR2B22 chip:

Page referencing the FCC ID as PPD-AR5B22, same as Bigfoot 1202, along with many others w/same ID:

Also, is this issue occurring only after you install anti-virus? If it is, it's probably the (W)LAN filter driver the AV installs.

If so, update both WLAN driver and AV.

    Hey Wardog,

Thanks for the link to those drivers, I'll give them a try later today when I get home from work.

To answer your other question, I dont use any anti virus. I installed a steam game through steam and thats when I noticed that the bandwidth had dropped. Also last night after re installing the drivers and confirming that the bandwidth was reading 35mb/s down, I loaded up the application Vuze down loaded a file, then closed out of the program. And I started to noticed a slow again in my internet speed, i checked speedtest and my bandwidth had dropped to 10mb/s down. I check on other devices that this was an isolated issue.

Do you think that the torrent application might be messin with the drivers in someway?

Heh, the torrent app is probably solely responsible for what you're seeing.

So I tired a set of drivers from asus for this wireless card, which are a newer version, and no luck same problem. After I installed everything was working as it should but today when i woke my computer up and ran the speedtest only getting 4mb/s down. I also tried a bunch of those win8.1 increase you internet speed tricks with no luck. I dont know what to do.

BTW torrenting over wireless isnt to bad I have always gotten pretty decent speed and this is really how I noticed that something was wrong.

Maybe so, but have you chosen to limit the bandwidth and or priority give to the torrents? If not, I'd say there you go.

No I dont current limit the torrent activity, but even when not using the application (fully closed down) bandwidth is still messed up. So I am really leaning towards unstable drivers. Because as soon as I reinstall the driver everything is fine and within an hour to 8hrs the bandwidth is back down to 5mb/s.

So I sent a email to tech support, but havent heard anything yet.

1-8hrs huh? You absolutely positive the app is fully closed?

That sure sounds like you're seeding, unbeknownst to you.

Anyways, I don't really think this is a driver related issue or we'd have heard of it before. I just Googled and other than the few strange instances I'm of the mind it isn't that. As such I'm leaning towards ISP or torrent app.
