IMPORTANT - We have posted Part 2 as a follow-up to the article

In response to quite a lot of feedback on our original article entitled “The forgotten component - What’s up with computer audio?” since its birth, it's been brought to our attention that not everything we mentioned was entirely profound in reference to the SoundStorm's Dolby encoding. We have a few adjustments we need to make to deliver entirely accurate content to you, our readers.

I've never really thought much into audio. I've got crappy onboard audio and regular speakers. I usually game with the TV on and plenty of background noises (with a few exception for certain games). I've never even considered surround sound, and as long as there aren't problems, choppiness, etc. with onboard stuff, I don't think about it. Basically, I personally haven't forgotten audio, I just never thought about it in the first place.

I'm very satisfied my current onboard sound setups (no different than my older SBL setups) with Logitech Z640/Z680's on any of my latest AMD or Intel PC's so what has been forgotten?
Is there any real point that you're trying to make with this question?
    Please explain if so.

Sorry but if it wasn't for benchtests who would even notice a few FPS difference?

It was a rather large difference in some cases, but for the most part the differences weren't big enough you would care.

I did read the enitre article.... It's like I said, the performance difference was negligible, for the most part. Some of the benchmarks would make me be sure to steer clear of certain sound cards, though. And the stuff about Soundstorm was interesting. But it's like I said, I don't care much. Unless I'll take a massive CPU usage hit (and FPS hit, as a result) by using onboard AC'97 or something similar, I won't care.

Onboard audio has gotten so good on most decent mobo's these days that alot of times people don't put much thought into it unless they have a need for decent audio. High quality speakers, and headphones, are fairly common though, as a decent 3.1 speaker set can be had for cheap. Personally I've got my onboard 6ch on my Abit IC7-G with Logitech Z-560's
