stop responding problem

whenever i launch crysis or cod 4 or nsf prostreet n play like 5 mins, my game hangs and gives me the error "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding but has succesfully recovered"
i have zotac 8800gt amp with the 169.25 i deleted n installed it back the it still hangs i checked my gpu temp its around 51 C
the weird thing is few days back i was playing crysis for hours it didnt hang
i have vista ultimate 32 bit
please guys help me i cant play those games more than 5 or 10 minutes

( specs are Gigabyte ds3r , Pentium core 2 duo e 6750 2.66 ,Corsair 2 ddr 800 , Zotac 8800gt amp ,Seagate 320 gb ,Gigabyte 550 watt )

Try anti-virus and anti-spyware scans. (Works for me!)

I have a Sparkle 8800GT 512mb and I get this same error on ArmA Armed Assault only. Any other game like crysis works great. Temps are below 60. I have tried every driver ever, fresh installs both 64bit and 32bit with the same resaults. Im going to pull 2gb of ram out when i can be bothered and see if that fixes it. The Same card in another comp with 3gb and vista 32 and ArmA works fine.

Had this issue when i just built my computer. It was my ram, if you can try running with different sticks or just use one stick and see how it runs.

I have tried with 2 different batches of Corsair XMS 2 but not with a "different" ram no. Ill see what my ATI HD4850 Does when it gets here, I have actually sorta I think managed to stop the error, by turning some of the game setting down a little. However ArmA: Armed Assault is the only game that causes problems. I run Crysis on the Highest settings and no problem at all.

First off, this is an NVIDIA library file and not related to a virus or to faulty RAM. Although faulty RAM could complicate the problem.
Secondly, Google is your friend! This a copy and paste from a 2007 article; this problem is well known and has been discussed numerous times. It is an NVIDIA installer problem, which seems to occur with each new set of drivers (old beta code maybe?):

"I have found and fixed the problem today. This is what appears to happen.during the installation of the most current drivers 100.65 Vista, an OLD filenvlddmkm.sys is copied into windows/system32/drivers and not the current one in the install. As a result the new drivers are attempting to access a file dated 11/2006 instead of 2/2007 ver 7.15.11.0065 which is in the newest WHQLdriver ver 100.65 vista 32.Fix: Go to windows/system32/drivers and rename nvlddmkm.sys tonvlddmkm.sys.old. Go to the nvidia directory and find the file nvlddmkm.sy_and copy it to windows/system32. Using the cmd window (DOS box) typeEXPAND.EXE nvlddmkm.sy_ nvlddmkm.sys. When the expansion is complete, copythe new nvlddmkm.sys to windows/system32/drivers and restart the computer. Your computer should now work properly.You will notice that any uninstall and reinstall of nvidia drivers will not remove the old nvlddmkm.sys file and will not overwrite it with the newer version. You have to do it manually. I do not know why this happens but who cares as long it is fixed." This mentions older NVIDIA drivers, but as I said above, seems to crop up again after every new batch of drivers, or major changes.

Your theory is flawed. What about when this happens on a fresh install of windows vista and using the default drivers for an 8800GT that windows installs? Plus Ive used driver cleaner every time there after and it still happens. My fault was probably a dodgy card, although for some strage reason it doesnt seem to crap out back in my older dell system. Anyway My ATI HD4850 eats the 8800gt and hasnt had any drama's.

No need to flame...actually the default driver for windows used a similar library file that was not updated from windows update (vista) causing the exact same scenario in the early months of Vista (a hotfix took care of this and was eventually corrected). As far as I am aware there were no similar issues with ATI cards. This is my first ATI in many years, all NVIDIA prior to this. Personally I've pretty much had it with NVIDIA lately. This 4890 replaced a 3 month old 260/16 that gave awful rendition in Blu-Ray movies and fast motion sequences. I wish I had kept my aging 8800GTX, it did far better with less! Don't get me wrong, NVIDIA are awesome cards for gaming, and their drivers are tweaked and optimized for many games (Far Cry etc). But as I get older, I am gaming less and using my rig more for HTPC applications.
But on the other hand, Windows 7 seems to be smoothe as silk with the initial NVIDIA drivers. I'll have to reserve judgement until it's released though.
I've used various driver cleaner programs with varying degrees of success. Running REGEDIT and doing a search usually shows quite a bit is left behind even after using a cleaner program. But hey, they do beat the hell out of a 2 day reformat/reinstall and the activation headaches!
