More RAM = Better Gaming Performance?

I dont know about you guys, but my system uses about 200mb of ram at idle. I always get rid of unnessary processes after boot up.
does this sound normal?

not even close to normal. After an initial boot up I have ~70, or less. I don't think you got rid of as many 'unnessary processes' as you thought. Even after a day or two of use it 'idles' at less than 100. But then again, my computer never stops running at full throttle anyway

Well yea, when I dual log an MoG it somehow finds a gig of ram to use. and when I log off the game it'll be at 950-1000mb, though only for a while, then it goes back to about 800 or so.
It seems that XP prioritizes where ram goes.

Also when I only had 512mb my system only used about 50- 80mb. for some reason when I upgraded to 1024mb it used more at idle. cept under full load.

Yes its normal, on a completely empty new tweaked partition I have 400,000-440,000k free, and in my normal OS its at about 330,000k when I start up.

I have 512mb ram.

I'd hardly call that normal. None of the computers I have contact with boot up with that much memory in use, absolutely none.

although it is still higher than anything i would consider normal, especially for us tweakers.

Well first off 4 sticks of RAM does hurt ya performance on an Intel chipset mobo.

Also, I have about 330mb free as well initially on boot-up, on a tweaked install with only AVG starting with Windows

I have ~400mb free at boot. Can it be zone alarm and norton eating up all the ram? Cause when my services start the ram usages goes up to around 200.

Seems that the 2 biggest memory eaters in my task manager are explorer.exe, and svhost.exe. I stop explorer.exe once thinkin it was Iexplorer, and my active desktop went bye-bye. I was like hey thats funny, whered my icons go?:laugh:

svchost is what runs a lot of the services in services.msc, you can't stop it.

If you stop Explorer, you can get it back by hitting Ctrl+Alt+Del to bring up the Task Manager and going to Run.
