I just upgraded my computer and I ran into a problem installing the drivers for my new Z87 Extreme6 mobo. At the point of the driver installation of the Rapid Storage Tech driver install, my computer restarts to complete the installation. As it is rebooting, it stalls on the "Starting Windows" screen for about a minute and then it BSOD reboots. When I try to restart again, it does the same thing. I am able to do a System Restore and get the computer to boot, but as soon as I run the Driver Disk, it goes back to installing the Rapid Storage Tech driver and the same thing happens, of course.

So at this point I don't believe I have any drivers installed. I know I don't have the LAN driver installed because I have no network access. It is certainly an issue with the drivers because the computer boots fine otherwise after the system restore. I'm unable to start the driver installation over from the beginning because the system restore just takes me back to the point where the drivers are already being installed. Since I had to reinstall Windows after the hardware upgrade, i don't have another restore point. I'm looking for any help. I'll post what specs I have, but please feel free to ask me for more information as needed. Thank you.

I have so far done the following:

Removed all Realtek software, then restart. And then re-installed with latest driver for Win7 64.
Re-installed Chipset drivers just in case.
Checked the mobo to see if there were any burns or anything of that nature nothing to suggest a overload on the board somewhere and all else runs fine.

Speakers show not detected in the playback devices section.

Hi,

I am trying to install Win7 Ultimate from a Toshiba USB3 drive onto a new system. When I try to boot from the Win7 install drive, the external drive spins up and the activity light goes crazy for several hours while a white cursor blinks on the screen - but nothing else happens. I have tried the drive on several USB ports, tried disconnecting all USB ports bar the drive and keyboard.

I have a Win7U license and a Win8 upgrade license, so can't install Win8 directly. I have no internal CD/dvd drive, and my install DVD is in another country so no luck there.

Board is an X79 Extreme6, I'm not entirely sure about bios revision, I just see "UEFI version 1.5" in the bios config screen. I have an SSD and a SATA3 HDD built in.

I have read that this happens with Win7 on some other boards and that you have to disable the floppy drive (I do not have one) but I cannot find an option to do this. Am I missing something very obvious? What other information would be helpful to figure this out? Apologies if this sounds stupid but I am very new to both UEFI and Asrock and am totally lost at this point.

Thanks for any help.

I hope you'll excuse what may sound like stupid questions. I haven't built a new system for a few years, so I'm working my way through UEFI.

First, the new system: H87M-ITX mobo, i7-4770S, 2x8GB Kingston Blue, 3TB WD Green, 64GB Sandisk SSD, EVGA GTX 650 Ti Boost, Silverstone slot load Blu-Ray, Windows 8-64 OEM disk.

I want to set up the drives with Intel Smart Response Technology, so the SSD will function as a cache. Without thinking about the 2.2TB limitation, I installed Win 8 and had Smart Response working, but could not access the whole HD. I ran the 3TB utility and ended up with three partitions, which is not what I want. I figured out that I needed GPT instead of MBR. I used diskpart to clean the drive and set GPT. In UEFI, if I go to CSM and set everything to Legacy only, Windows Install sees the drive but says it cannot install Windows on the primary partition. If, in CSM, I set PXE and Storage to UEFI only, Windows Install does not see the drive and says a media driver is missing. The driver does not appear to be on the mobo CD. What I want is one large partition with Windows on it. I do not want to use the SSD as a boot drive. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone experienced what I am about to tell you? I hope so, I need to get this fixed or out this board goes. I am having problems with my USB 3.0. Here is the problem. I need a card reader so I bought a 3.0 card reader. I hooked it up and it works fine but it causes problems with my windows backup and my system restore. The problem is that when I go into create a system image it just keeps trying to find something and never quits looking and I have to click cancel to finish. If I do the backup it does the same but I have to do a restart to get out. The problem with the system restore goes into MS updates. It wants to try to create a restore point but can't seem to do it so it just hangs and hangs. This is not acceptable. Okay, so you say my card reader is bad. Well, I tried it in 2 other computers and it worked great. So, you say maybe this one causes problems on my machine. I bought 2 other brands and tried them also. No luck. Same result. If I unplug my card readers, the problem goes away, and the create system image and backup options work. No more problem but I need a card reader. No, I don't want a 2.0 card reader. Anyone have any suggestions. Thanks.

Though I have been aware of this for some time, it is only now that I felt the need to report this; and I assume I am not the first.

The USB 3.0 header, designated USB3_4_5 (for ports 4 and 5), and two USB 3.0 ports, designated USB3_2_3 (ports 2 and 3, located under the RJ-45 port), are nonfunctional in Windows XP. They are directly tied to the Z77 chipset and require the Intel Z77 USB 3.0 driver. Unfortunately, there is no driver for WinXP. Nor will USB 2.0 devices work in these ports.

USB 3.0 devices can only operate at full speed in the two USB 3.0 ports located under the PS/2 keyboard/mouse port (designated USB3_0_1), since they use the Etron USB 3.0 driver. Either those, or the USB 2.0 ports. All ports are operational in Win7.

Why is there no Intel Z77 USB 3.0 driver for WinXP?

When I initially installed it, it worked correctly. After I put quick disconnects on the Maelstrom (rest of the loop already had them), the pumps wouldn't drop below 3000 rpm. I double checked all my power connections, its connected to the CPU 4 pin fan connector, my target speed is level 1, my target temp is 45C (minimum value), and I'm sitting well below that at 33C at idle. I've tried cycling the values in both BIOS and AXTU. The only way I can get the pump speeds down is with SpeedFan. Why would that be?

Hi ! In advance I would like to apologize for my bad English. My problem is I just bought this model of motherboard and the time ( clock + date ) stands still in BIOS. As in it's stuck at 7:35 and 53 seconds and it won't forward unless I reset the cmos with the clear cmos jumper in the mb. At that point I can set the clock to the actual time of day and it will work, but after a system shutdown and leaving it on off mode for about 1 hour, the clock stops again. It's not the battery, just replaced it. Can it have something to do with the fact that I try to OC a i5 2500k to 4 ghz ? That would be strange as both the MB and CPU are meant for OCing. BIOS version is 1.90. Anyone has any idea ? Best regards !

So I've read the tutorials and watched videos and searched Google for hours. I download the 'instant flash' version, extracted it to a FAT32 USB stick, pressed F2 on startup (have also used the same method with F6 to go straight there), clciked the flash BIOS feature.

'no image file detected'

I've tried every method. I've used multiple USB sticks. I've tried them in every USB port anywhere on my machine. I've checked and re-checked that I'm downloading the correct file for my board (X79E6G_2.10), re-downloaded it, tried it all again, then started over. It just doesn't work. No image file detected.

Now what?

I filled out a profile of my system specs but I don't know if anyone can see it. Windows 7 x64, i7 3930k, 32GB G.Skill RAM, 2x 240GB SSD's, 2x 1TB HDD's.

Hi all, I am wondering If you can help me with a new build I am currently trying to get working.

The parts I have are ->
2x Sapphire HD7850 graphics cards
AMD singlecore processor
Corsair 8GB DD3 memory
Corsair TX850 – (850W)
Asrock Socket AM3+ 970 Extreme4 Motherboard
I am also trying to boot off a usb for a linux dist.

I have the graphics cards crossfired in PCIe2 and 4, and powered from the power source.
When I turn the powersupply / board on all the fans ( cpu and gpu) work, and an output is detected in my TV ( through HDMI) but no BIOS screens or anything appears.
Given the way my TV works I can tell that the TV is detecting the cards, but they are not supplying any information.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
