My amd athlon xp2600+ seems always run at 45 degrees celcius when idle. Is this normal? Here's what I've tried: 1. retail HSF with thermal pad, CPU temp. still at 45 when idle 2. retail HSF with arctic silver 5, CPU temp. still at 45 when idle I just added a exhaust rear 80mm fan (no front fan), and it doesn't lower the CPU temp., except lower the case temp. by 5 degrees. Is there anything I can try apart from buying a new HSF? And my mobo is the Gigabyte GA-7VT600-P-L, with an Solution Series Antec case Thanks in advance. Cheers, Johnny.

Sounds like it may be a bit hot, i have a 2600 Thorougbred-B that idles at 38ish. I have a Coolermaster Aero 7+. If you wanna shave a few degrees off your temps try an all copper cooler, these dissapate heat more effectivley than copper cored heatsinks

The retail HSF sucks. That's you problem. It will be enough, but if you want to overclock more you will need some thermal paste and a new HSF.
