as of coolers......the cooler master x-dream SE is really good. i've also heard of the volcano 7+ which is good. with either 1 you can oc a barton 2500+ to 3000+ speeds easily.

If your temps are good, you can overclock a Barton 2500+ to 3200+ with a stock cooler.
I have a 1800+ pali O/C in my wifes computer with an AMD stock cooler. It just happens to work and keep it cool in the configuration I have. I had to lap the heck out of it to get it flat. After that though, it worked like a champ. So not all stock coolers are bad. You can't assume either a stock cooler, or aftermarket is going to be flat either. That is why I always double check and lap it before I call it a dud and buy a new one. Chez

well, i donno if volcano 7+ is the best right now. cause my 200x9.5 barton setup is running at 46-51 at load when running UT2003 demo for 3 hrs.
i think for heatsink, the SLK series is the best right now. I wanna get the sLK 900, but didnt have the 90 bucks canadian to spend on a heatsink. To go with taht heatsink, the vantec tornato with a fan controler will be the best. I use a fan controller myself for my 7+ cuase i cant stand running my 7+ at 5800 rpm cause is too freaking loud. i am running the fan at 5000 which is a bit more quiet, and it cools good.

Ill give yas a bit more detail. I have an xp2000, msi k7t 266 pro2-u mboard. The system temperature according to bios is between 35-40C. The CPU will started at about 30 something when I first turn it on and will shoot up relaly quickly to the 60's. Since the system temp is good im guessing i need a better cpu cooler. That sound about right?

Sounds like you def need a better cooler. Also, you might wanna check your thermal grease application. I mean, a 30c jump is pretty high. I think the Volcano 7+ will do nicely in your set up, if you lap it and get some good grease, you can run it on medium and o/c and the noise will still be way down :thumb:. Good luck, : peace2: Mista K6
