I'm using the stock HSF on my 1800+ with no overclocking. My temps are 43C on my CPU, and 35C on my mb, at idle. I just ordered a 60mm to 80mm fan adaptor(from Coolerguys.com) to attach to my heatsink so I can use an 80mm fan on it. Does anyone know if this will help to lower my cpu temp? Or will it not make any difference? I'll be using a 32-34 cfm fan. Thanks.

I read you allready orderd an adapter...nonetheless why don't u just get a termaltake volcano 7 , 9 or 11... guess the 7 as most peeps on here find it to do the job really good...anyway just my two cents.. ps...stock fans suck period.. dont even try overclocking with those things..and as far as that 80mm..its prolly gonna make some additional noise that might or might not annoy you after a while...

cheers

You'll likely find little difference in temps at all and a Volcano 7+ or Volcano 11 would've been a better investment than the fan adaptor (forget the 7 and 9 models as these are bi-metal HSF's where the other two are full copper and perform much better).

Or if ya running on a little cheaper budget get the Kingwin KCU-7025 copper HSF as they run about $10 cheaper you can get one here and the info from Kingwins site here
This is what I use and i get a temp of 38C in a Burn in Test

I thought I would just try the adaptor first, since it was so inexpensive($2.50) before I bought a new heatsink. I don't think my temps are really all that high anyway, but I may decide to overclock someday and I want my cpu temp to be a little lower before I go to messing around with my fsb and all. It never gets above 48C under any normal gaming load. Does that sound about right for stock cooling? Is there any need in installing the adaptor or am I just wasting my time? Oh, by the way, the 80mm fan I would be using on the adaptor is a blue led fan with a cfm of around 32. Thanks for your time.

That's not to bad but then again games never fully stress a modern CPU anyway.
