Default Heat Pipe Technology and testing..

Has anyone noticed in the reviews that MB's are tested laying horozontal.. and that most heat pipes go up from there.. The liquid vaporizes in the base and travels up and condendes, then come back down and repeats the cycle. My question/point is that it would seem to me that the efficiency of tower coolers like Thermalrights TrUE 120 series would be lower if the motherboard was in a vertical position making the heat sink operate on it's side.. Has anyone seen any discussion around this?
