I want to use my primary rig as an e-mule downlaod machine, but I want absolutely no noise to ensure I get to sleep well without being disturbed since it will probably be on all night. Since it will be downgraded to a download machine only I thought I could use a big heatsink and lower the FSB. But I don't know how to do it exactly, for example do I have to lower the vcore as well.
Anyway what kind of heatsink would do fine to cool an athlonXP 1700+ at FSB100 or do I need some sort of a fan in any case. I can even buy a new case if it will help keep the noise inside.
Thx

going with stock voltage would be best, also not OCing it will keep the temps down. (im assuming that u dont want watercool it)
one of those big zelman coolers should do good job than.

Antec has a nice case my friend just picked up. It has a huge fan inside so you can run at low speeds to keep the noise down. As for a HSU the Zalman 7000 is what I use (24 idle 34 load on a P4 3.2) and it is dead quiet (but you need to see if it'll work with yours).

Going with slower 120mm fan is always an option if you got room/tools to do it :thumb:

for any modern cpu you are going to need some form of active cooling, even if very little. CPUs these days just run too hot, even at reduced speeds.
