1) Holy crap do thermal pads suck, man, if you ever have one TAKE IT OFF. It's only wax. 2) I have a Socket-423 heatsink on a Socket-478 CPU. It has the same retention clips (I thought they looked funky from the other P4's I've worked with) and the heatsink is solid aluminum, no copper around the core, nada. It did lap nicely tho, I lapped it at 600 grit for about 5 minutes, then at 1500 (yah, thats the next step up at my local true value) for about 20 min. Gave a nice mirror shine in some places, but left some of the valleys open for grease. Btw, AS5 has a much higher viscosity than AS3, it's alot like graphite grease (used in joints on cars). 3) I have no way to monitor my temps. Right now I just booted up, things seem to be running fine, maybe a little faster. I know MBM doesnt work on my comp (tried before, wouldnt read the sensor on my exhaust fan or in my CPU socket). Are there any programs that just automatically detect and temp readings and give them to you? Thanks, : peace2: Mista K6

heh, I dont worry about it that much to spend cash :thumb: . I played a couple of rounds of single player UT2003 with 8 bots on, no stuttering, slowing down or anything. I personally felt it ran a tad faster (couple of FPS). Anyways, I'm quite pleased. After this post I'm going to loop 3dMark2001SE about 3 or 4 times to do some work, then I'll play some more UT2003, then I'll shut her down and start another heat cycle tomorrow. Thanks for the quick reply tho minibubba. : peace2: Mista K6

That's odd, I've never ran into problems with MBM and Dell. What i had to do was.. Under settings...general.. I click system info, then like the button that makes it retrieve it.. Then it usally finds the temps and fan speeds.
