I built my first computer... well uh kind of

I ordered a new case, RAM and motherboard and took my CPU, graphics card, heatsink and modem and power supply and put it all in the new case.

Here's me specs now :thumb:

AMD Duron 1.3 GHz
GeForce4 Ti 4600
Corsair 256 Mb XMS PC-3200 DDR RAM
Asus A7N8X-X Motherboard
Chieftec Black Dragon style case with full window
2 fans in the back (expells the air)
1 fan in front (intake) and one on side window (intake)
U.S. Robotics 56k modem (awesome, aint it?)
350 Watt Antec PSU

Took a while to get it up and running... my mouse and keyboard wouldn't work so I had to plug them in to PS/2 ports instead of USB ports :( then my moniter wouldn't work if I went in to the BIOS, then my speakers wouldn't work and my computer would beep everytime a message came up or something. THEN I installed the motherboard drivers and fixed everything lol

The extra fans and case room helped with cooling a lot. Before I got the new parts the CPU was running at about 40C, now it's at about 15C when it's idle of course... I haven't tested it at full load quite yet.

nuff of my babbling

Well congrats ...on you new rig...i remember when i built mine i was excited s heck...now...its like an everyday thing. Lil by lil you'll build more and more...b4 you know it your hobby might become a lil side biz...who knows.:)

Time to run some benchmarks on your rig. Looks you got a nice video card. Maybe in a bit you can upgrade your Proc. and add 256 of the same exact memory.

I'm planning on buying another stick of RAM and dual channel it. Then buy an Athlon XP 2500+ and overclock it  Not sure how great the benchmarks will do with only 256 Mb RAM. Before I had 512 Mb, but it was slow PC133 SDRAM. Hopefully the new faster RAM will make up for it. I haven't messed with the BIOS much quite yet but by the looks of it I can't overclock my current CPU (the Duron) :( I wish I could because it's got really good cooling... wayyy better than my last case/setup.

you'll be fine for now..but its a waste having the dual channel feature and not using it you know. If you plan to overclock ...buy yyourself a decent HS and Fan ...its a must...
