Default zalman cnps 9700 nt & q9650

i would like to know if the zalman cnps 9700 nt cooler will be good enough for a q9650 that i plan on overclocking to 3.6 or 3.8 ghz.

It's certainly not a bad cooler, and should keep your quad under dangerous temps. There are better alternatives around though, especially for hot quad core CPU's.

Take a look and see if a Thermalright Ultra 120 eXtreme is cheaper. You do need to buy a 120mm fan if you don't already have one, but it will cool better at higher clocks, and on hotter chips. Also check out the latest coolers from Noctua. Both the tower cooler and the downdraft style NP-12 series are excelent, and come with IMO the best fan you could fit to a heatsink, in regards to a balance of cooling and noise. Their fans are so good I have three, on the front, rear and HSF.
