Default Drivers for Vista HP 64

I was wondering this for a while after looking at my device drivers on vista 64. A lot of them have system32 in them, would that suggest that these are in 32 bit drivers and not for the 64 bit OS that I am running? I have had some problems and I am pretty much lost on what it could be.

I am not certain, but I think that the 64-bit operating system still has some of those drivers for backward compatability. Someone please correct me if I am wrong here...

From what I can see system32 is just a file name ... not a reference to 32 bit or 64 bit. I guess the makers of 64 bit windows could have renamed that file to system64 but why?

Looking at my drivers I was a bit surprised to see reference to "longhorn rtm" in a lot of the basic drivers (dvd driver, floppy disk controller, etc)!
