You shouldn't need to download any drivers. Just put it in and install the software.

I saw the page for ordering the CD, but I'm not convinced you need it. If I'm wrong, and it does need a driver that HP would force you to order the CD for, then try Google if no one here has it.

Thanks for the reply.

The reason I don't have the software cd is that i bought the drive without it. Much cheaper that way, and most company's let you simply download their drivers for free. I've already installed the hardware part of it, but when windows uses its own drivers on the drive it only works as a DVD reader. Somehow it is not recognized that it can also write dvd's. Thats why I think I need their driver. The only software I found on their site was "updates" which doesn't help if you don't have anything to update in the first place.

I tried searching google with "dvd 400i" +driver . . . thats how I happened upon this site. Maybe if I can find out the specific name of the driver itself I would be more successful in finding it? Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks again.

This drive does not need any software from hp. Use nero to burn dvd+r. I have rma'd a few of these drives in the past as they can have serious issues with cdr. I use one of these drives on a regular basis in my main rig(I guess I got lucky and got a good one).
