Post GA-7VA + ATIX800XL AGP problem

I was given a benad new AGP ATI 800XL-256MB card with a new 400Fortron PSU for my aging computer. After installing the card and the drivers it worked for about 4 hours and then the system crushed. It restarted and stuck in the post screen just before the memory check. I used the old card again and it boot ok and a message with a windows error appearred.I reattached the old card and again it pauses right before the memory check...After all these, i put my old card and the system is stable, but enery time i try to use the modem i have an instant restart ...., although until the card installation I had no problems.
Tried fail-safe deafults in bios and nothing.... Is it a bad card, bad motherboard or what???
Any syggestions whould be very much appreciated....

AMD 2000XP, GigaByte-7VA,512MB 333Ram, Nec 3510 DVD-Rom, 2*WD40GB drives.
Software: WINXP-SP2 and catalyst driver the ones with the card
thanks.

You mention a new PSU. Has this new PSU been installed? I'm thinking that it is a possible power related problem.

If you are useing your old PSU try the new one. It is possible that the new video card put too much of a load on the old PSU and partially fryed it.

If you are using your new PSU try reverting back to the old one. It is possible that the new PSU is faulty.

I've tried both PSU's and it always stucks just before the memory check,I dont even have time to enter BIOS....

I've used a third PSU a Chieftec 350W but nothing changed...
Could the card be dead?

If it has a molex connect plug that in.. Usually it doesnt, but always check, when inserting your card, reset the bios, If you haven't already UPGRADE to the lastest bios from gigabyte. After install with the old card in, Install the ATI drivers, than plug the card in, and if so, the molex connector. Make sure its properly seated ever its not overheating. If it still doesnt boot after bios, and other things are updated, than I would get a refund or exchange the card for a new one.

The molex for the card was connected, but nothing so far.Only the splash screen for the motherboard and then pause before memory check, then blank screen. I ll take it back fo a check in another pc, if it is a compatability problem woth the motherboard I ll ask for a refund.
Thanks again.

Exclamation Re: GA-7VA + ATIX800XL AGP problem

I returned the card and after a brief check they found no problem with it. I got a refund and I'll propably try a Geforce 6600. So propably a motherboard incombatability or malfuction. Thanks for the help!

Cool Re: GA-7VA + ATIX800XL AGP problem

Well, I finally got an albatron Geforce 6600 with 256Mb for less than half the price tag of the ATIX800XL. The system was stable for more than 5 hours so propably the problem was some incompatability between VIA KT400 and the graphic card. Thanks for all the help.
