The problem here is that browsers automatically add "http://" before anything typed into the address bar if an http prefix is not already present. Accessing this IP requires that you do NOT type http:// into the address bar, as that site does not exist.

The problem for me is that I don't know how to disable it. If someone could enlighten us, all our problems would most likely be solved.

Just highlight the http:/ and delete it, then type 192.168.0.1, or whatever your router may be.

127.0.0.1 may also be it

Or
Code:
http://www.routerlogin.com
More info would be needed to help advise you further

Open your web browser.

Type 192.168.2.1 in the URL address window and press enter. An admin window should appear.

Then you can make the appropriate changes to the network to allow connection.

Please note that with many routers the wireless must be enabled. Also, check to see if the laptop has the antenna turned on. This is a common problem when trying to get a laptop connect via wireless.

There are three type of connection for wireless; Ad-hoc, WEP, WPA.

Ad-hoc is not secured and will allow anyone within a certain distance to connect to your network.

WEP and WPA are secure network (encrypted) features. They will not allow someone to log into you network without entering the SSID and security key.

I would recommend securing the network using WPA encryption.

This is just the rudimentary steps for wireless connection. You will be unable to set up your wireless without being able to first connect to the router.

Lets go from there ....
