Default Taking a DVD-Drive and installing to another
Can you take a CD/DVD-Drive from a prebuilt(HP,Dell,Compaq) computer and install it into a custom computer?

Sure. If it is a SATA drive you should have no problems as long as there is a place to plug it into the motherboard. If it is an IDE (PATA) drive (and the new system has a place to plug in IDE drives) then you may need to set the master/slave settings to the correct position for your configuration.

All should be fine as long as it fits and is setup correctly, and of course it must be functional as well :)
