First of all, go to a command prompt and type the following:
net start spooler
sc config spooler depend= RPCSS

If that doesn't work, you might have to clean out all of your spoolers. I think Microsoft released an .exe program that does this for your. Type "cleanspl.exe" into a search engine and see if you can download it from somewhere. Run it and restart your computer.

See if any of that works.

After you run that cleanspl.exe program you'll have to reinstall the drivers for all of your printers.

I ran into USB problems with mine in that I needed to edit the registry key to recognize the USB.

Anyone ever had an Error 1075 when trying to start the Print Spooler under Services? I have Windows XP Home, am trying to install new HP printer, and get Print Spooler error 1075 message that the dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion.

Youmight have to reinstall your XP & all other drivers to get things right.
The one thing I never liked about HP printers, linked via parallel or serial port, is that you need to restart your pc every time an error occurs(mechanical & software).
I have no issues with HP's set up as network printers, though.
