Since this is a hardware forum ... thought I'd try here. Got alot to learn about both hardware and Linux, but I'm trying. I also posted to Knoppix here if anyone is interested. http://www.knoppix.net/forum/viewtop...8315&highlight= |

You may need a SATA driver installed during the Knoppix installation so that Linux can find your drive. I know my motherboard driver disk has linux drivers in addition to the Windows drivers. ..."Press F6 if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver" is the Windows method during install... . It's been awhile since I installed any version of Linux but I believe there is prolly an option at some point during install to use a floppy (or USB) to install the necessary drivers.

Thanks for your response you guys. I'm really with all of you, I think the SATA support is not in this Knoppix distro. After your posts id did some looking at how to go about adding the linux SATA drivers, well it looked pretty daunting to this cowpoke. I really like the idea of finding a new distro, but it seems like quite some time since the expected new Knoppix release has been announced, and I don't seem to be able to find newer than my 5.1.1. I may have to wait for that, none the less, or find a different way.
Thanks for the ideas! |
