New 250cc Sports Bike.What To Get

Hi All,
Im Starting to look around for a new 250cc sports bike. But i have no idea whats good and whats bad as ive only been into dirt biking before. If anyone has got an idea what sort of bike to go for please let me know..

Where abouts do you live? Here in the US theres only 1 250cc sportbike available yet. The EX250 ninja. Hondas VTR 250 used to be sold here, but stopped in 91.

Otherwise, I still recommend the Ninja 250. Light agile and fast enough to lose your license.:D 2 stroke bikes are not beginners bikes (NSR250, TZR250, Aprilia RS250, etc). They have a powerband that HITS HARD all of a sudden. They basically are like a light switch, either off or on.



But, even those bikes are MUCH better than the new riders here someties start with. I've seen noobs start with a GSXR1000, R1, R6, GSXR750, ZX-9R, CBR Fireblades and other big bores since we have no restrictions for new riders. Its scary.

How tall are you?
How wide is your backside?

If you can afford one, a brand spankin' new Honda VTR250 should be your weapon of choice.

They provide excellent performance, are much more comfortable for the average-sized australian than CBRs, NSRs etc, and being a naked bike they are cheaper to insure. They also hold there value pretty well.

lookin' for a good 250 sportsbike..if ya don't want a 2 stroker perhaps a Honda CBR250R Fireblade or an RR Fireblade..I have owned one for over 2 years now as well as other bikes and so(10000klm's) far had very little trouble cepting a voltage reg/rec..repairs cost $99au. As for peformance nothing comes close(cept other bikes) to 140KPH and 0 to 100 in about 3.8secs.. they'll do the standing quarter in just under 14 secs if launched correctly anf will freely rev to around 18000rpm..max power is delivered at about 14000rpm but suprisingly there is some quite usable power under 6000rpm so it does make a good beginners bike..expect an early model(MC19) to cost around $4500au and the aus import (MC22) to be around $7000 although if ya shop around you will find them cheaper..look for one with under or around 30000 klm's on the clock..i have heard of them doing over 100000 without a rebuild so reliability is not an issue :blah:

oh..and top speed will see them run out to 180KPH with reports of 200KPH in favourable conditions (long enough road in other words) :blah:

Hi. I just brought myself a Hondav25 custom and i dont think i could be any happier considering i gota go through my L's and P's all over again.(For the 3rd time) I just like the feel of the bike. Ive only had it to 135kms and i dont think i'd get much more out of it unless i change sprockets or take the fuel regulator off but "hey" it'll do me until i can ride the bigger bikes. I cant afford the fines anway. Anyhow... its 4 strokes 4 me.
