Default Gaming engines?

Hi guys!umm im kinda new at programming and ive been wondering wats with the gaming engines?how does it work?all i know is the game engine is the core of the game but can give more details.and does software applications also have theyre own engines like the games?please reply im really curious about this thanks!

take computer gaming design classes or computer programing at your local community college thats the best way to learn it you have to start in steps theres a lot to learn. i have taken 3 years of computer classes.

I used game maker to make crappy games, lol.
