Just wanted to say that the measure of how well something cools is not the temperature it's at, but how close to ambient it keeps the thing being cooled.

For example... a processor running at 50 degrees in a hot 30 degree room (20 above ambient) has better cooling than one running at 40 degrees in a cold 10 degree room (30 above ambient).

So... taking your 22 degree ambient into consideration, the 3% and 4% "improvements" are actually 8% and 15% approximately, making MX-2 a significant improvement over AS5.

When talking about the actual coolers, I would agree with your thoughts, but not the TIM. The purpose of the temperature testing was to give a direct comparison using the MX-2 against the near industry-standard AS5. The fact that it performed better says a lot in and of itself, but the cooler is what was still keeping the processor cool. The TIM acts as nothing more than a medium between the cooler and the processor.
