i have this card (tried it with 4x vr 300 in raid 0.. iv done many tests.)
cards is slower on sata than sas hdds. but goes backwards after 250mb/sec is reached) serious flaw, when hooking up 4x vr 300. see speed tests. just replacing my 4x 36g raptors with vr 300 x4 (speed test)day 30 - EXTREME Overclocking Forums just replacing my 4x 36g raptors with vr 300 x4 (speed test)day 30 - Page 2 - EXTREME Overclocking Forums ![]() (ie this cards bad with 4 hdds on it..) contact tech support, no help or reply (sent for help 4 times in 3 months) "HighPoint RocketRAID 2640x4 Delivers SAS/SATA High Performance Throughput for Workstations Milpitas, CA – HighPoint Technologies, the RAID storage experts announces SAS/SATA performance testing results benefitting workstations needing high throughput with the RocketRAID 2640x4 PCI-Express x4 SAS RAID controller. The RocketAID 2640x4 SAS RAID controller delivers the true SAS performance needed for performance hungry applications for workstations with PCI-Express x4 bus technology and support for RAID levels (0, 1, 5, 10 and JBOD) increasing data performance, improving data reliability and protection. The RocketRAID 2640x4 controller will accelerate workstations with a new level of flexibility, performance and reliability with a low price point. The RocketRAID 2640x4 offers the flexibility to support 15,000 rpm SAS hard drives for performance, lower cost SATA hard drives for capacity and supports mixing and matching SAS and SATA drives on the same controller for a true balance of performance and capacity. Numerous performance tests were run on the RocketRAID 2640x4 with SAS, SATA and a mixture of SAS/SATA drives to show the performance and capacity flexibility of the RocketRAID 2640x4. When the RocketRAID 2640x4 was tested with (4) 15,000 RPM SAS drives the sustained READ/WRITE performance approaches 500MB/s. When testing with (4) SATA drives sustained READ/WRITE performance approaches 370MB/s and using a mixture of high performing SAS and high capacity SATA drives offered good sustainable performance results that approached 330 MB/s. RocketAID 2640x4 Sustained Throughput Results READ WRITE (4) SAS Drives 501 MB/s 486 MB/s (4) SATA Drives 370 MB/s 370 MB/s (2) SAS and (2) SATA 330 MB/s 330 MB/s The RocketRAID 2640x4 delivers the best balance of performance and capacity allowing applications like (video editing, CAD/CAM, digital image processing) to leverage the speed of SAS and the capacity of SATA. The sustained throughput of the RocketRAID 2640x4 meets the performance needs of workstation users and is world’s only low cost high performance PCIExpress x4 SAS RAID controller. Can you please clarify in your review whether this card is a soft-raid or true hardware raid?
You mentioned that it has no cache, but I would like to know whether the parity calculations are taking place on the card or the cpu - especially since you were reporting fairly high cpu utilisation. Can you please review the HP smart array p400 ASAP? |
