For comparison or reference sake the high-end nvidia gpu numbers should have been cited.
Most all the test seemed to praise the 1GB gpu, even though it's improved numbers were often minimal. AND when the 512MB CF actually outperformed the 1GB pair you basically ignored that fact.
Spending nearly $1k for a pair of 1GB hd2900xt seems hardly justified, especially when the 512MB version are about $100 cheaper EACH. So, $1000 vs $760 for about 3% improvement or nearly identical or even worse performance would seem to indicate getting a second $380 512MB instead of ponying up for a pair of $500 1GB cards was advisable.
About the only place the extra memory shined was 2560x1600 with x4AA/x16AF.
In CF the pair of 512MB kept right up with the pair of 1GB.

Also of interest would be seeing how Vista and their DX10 impacts with these "high-end gpu" vs their performance in Wxp pro's DX9c. Especially since lately Vista suposedly disables the second gpu in CF and SLI. Also Vista is supposed to take a significate performance hit when sound is involved... do not these gpu have integrated sound (ATI Avivo TM HD technology includes fully integrated HD audio capabilities and supports playback of multi-channel 5.1 surround audio strea*ms.)

But then again the purpose was only to compare the 512MB and the 1GB versions of the Shader 4 hd2900xt; with no explination when the 512MB outperformed the 1GB.
Fan noise was not mentioned.
