I just have to wonder if adding more of the drives in an array is going to increase the occurrence of those 5 second pauses you were seeing.

That is a very good question and I really wish it was possible to test that. When Seagate gets there SSDs together I am sure I will have the chance to test a large array of SSDs but with memory companies making so little profit these days it is difficult for them to get 8 SSDs in the marketing department much less over to my workstation.
