Default Question about Windows 7 OEM

Just wondering, if I buy Win 7 OEM version, will I be able to reinstall it in the future if I want to upgrade components in my computer like cpu, MB, GPU etc. ; Or would I have to buy another OEM copy if I change anything in my system?

I have XP pro OEM atm and it has always let me reinstall it when I change components or upgrade hardware in my computer, just wondering if Windows 7 OEM is the same way?

thanx in advance ^^

Cant See it being a problem at all. Back in the day you either had to Re-Activate a copy of bindows when you did a major hardware change or when Re-installed. Worse case you have to ring micro$oft to re-activate.

Default Re: Question about Windows 7 OEM

Ya thats what I had to do with my XP pro OEM disk is call microsoft and they ask you a few questions and then give you a new key number to put in. I have done it countless times when building a new system or upgrading components or fresh installs over the past 7 years or so (have the original OEM disk with no SP's on it lol)

So I am just hoping that Windows 7 OEM works the same way, cause I so dont want to pay 200$+ for retail when I dont care about tech support and such

Brigs, Buddy I hope so to, as I am the same as you. I have the original XP OEM disk no SP and its only when I update it to SP2 I think then I have to activate it. I havent used it for a long time though. I cant see 7 Being any different. The one time I have ever used Micro$oft Tech Support they are soo useless. Now there is Google they are really not needed. So OEM for me. Mind you in AUS OEM is nearly $200AUD anyway. lol. Cant wait for 7.

OEM Copy would be tied to the board, but as said above all you have to do is call and tell them your board died and they will reactivate you as long as you answer the main question right (Only one PC)

Oh I see Lsdmea, so is that how it is with the XP pro OEM disc too that I have, is that the OS key is tied to the Motherboard?

Cause when I have upgraded my computer in the past, all I did was call microsoft and they ask that question and then give me a new long ass number to enter into the activation screen and then its all done

Yes, it is supposed to be, but they are much more lenient now on XP then Vista/Windows 7

But yeap, that is all you will have to do if you upgrade your windows 7 system later on, normally you will only speak with a computer
