Default Xp boot slowed down.

Hi. My windows Xp(SP2 /w latest patches) suddenly has started booting slowly. I get this in my Event Viewer:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7000
Date: 3/11/2005
Time: 10:04:33 PM
User: N/A
Computer: OGGY
Description:
The EIO service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

And this:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7000
Date: 3/11/2005
Time: 10:04:33 PM
User: N/A
Computer: OGGY
Description:
The Parallel port driver service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

Dunno what EIO and parallel port driver is. They don't show in The services. HijackThis startup list shows this:
Parallel port driver: system32\DRIVERS\parport.sys (manual start)
EIO: \??\C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\EIO.sys (autostart)
How do I remove them from Startup?

Bootvis doesn't work properly either. It doesn't record the Driver Delays,Boot Activity and CPU usage for some reason. Other things get recorded. I wonder why?? Also, if i press Optimize System, it restarts and everything and says it's optimizing but the message never goes away. There's no CPU/Disk usage at that time. I don't think that's normal.

Help's appreciated guys.

bootvis needs
com+ event system
task schedualer
and event log service to be on to work

eio is apparently an asus graphics driver..
if you dont have an asus graphic card this error is probably from
hacked nvidia drivers that were orginally meant for an asus card.

The only Asus I have is my Mobo. Any solution for these?

I think PARC Had this going on. ( The Parallel port driver service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. ) The same thing was going on with my computer. Here is the fix.. Go into your BIOS and turn on (PARALLEL PORT ADDRESS) Set it to 378 or 278. Its looking for a Parallel printer port but most are USB now. Any way if you turn it on it will find it then the error will go away. And who knows, Maybe you will buy a old printer and use the port. LOL! It took me a week to find this out. Hope it helps some one. If it does let me know.

Default Re: Xp boot slowed down. - EIO Service

Turning on the parallel port in the BIOS may not always work.
One workaround is to disable the EIO service which must be done manually:
In
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\EIO
and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet00*\Services\E IO

change
"Start"=dword:00000002
to
"Start"=dword:00000004

=> 4 is disabled.

Windows will then not start the EIO service and booting will speed up.
Should a subsequent "WIA" error occur, then set the WIA service to manual (don't disable).

Hope this will help some others, it cost me quite some time to figure out.

Patrick
