Print Spooler service not running

I am using a standalone PC with XP professional SP2. My printer folder shows empty. I can not add a printer. It shows print spooler service not running. I went to SERVICE. Checked dependencies. RPC started. But Print spooler service could not be stated. It shows ' Can not start the printer spooler service on local computer. Error : 1053 : The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion'.

Please suggest.
