Default AIM causes computer to restart.. help?

Im using windows XP on a Dell computer, and just yesterday whenever i try to open, or sign on to AIM the computer trys to restart. I got the blue screen and it said the file vdnt32.sys had a problem. i threw it out, but that did nothing. does anyone here have any suggestions or know what the problem is?

I know of a couple of trojans that can do that...scan with your anti-virus and us an adware detector...
