Differance in heat between 650-750w PSU?

Just a quick question since we're talkin about PSU's. I have always been a person to leave my computer on 24/7 cause I heard it wears the PSU and degrades its performance to keep turning it on and off all the time, is this true? And what do you guys do, do you leave yours on all the time or turn it off everyday?

I am not sure if that is true or not, I have never read it anywhere?

I turn mine (Computer, not PSU Via Switch) on and off 2-3 times a day, never leave it on

You aren't going to have any issues using a PC for 24/7 use. The PSU isn't going to dramatically degrade. You're looking at a max of 20-25% over 5-8 years. I don't know many people who keep a machine 5 years.

Also be ware of being too complacent with a PSU for example (no offence to qwertylesh)

is a very reckless attitude. Most PSU's won't show ANY signs of problems being over loaded.... until you hear a loud pop and smell burning electronics. DO NOT draw more power from a unit than it's rated for, it's not worth the risk. PSU's generally die suddenly, not over time.

The only temperature concerns should be from what the PSU's rated at. Quality PSU's will be rated to give their max wattage at an internal temp of 40c-50c depending on manufacturer. The dodgy cheap models, or at least the ones that list this spec are probably rated to give max wattage at 25c. As the case temp of virtually all PC's is over 25c, the cheap versions are NEVER safe being loaded to the max.

Heat produced isn't an issue. You don't need to seek out a cool running PSU because the hot air should always be exhausted from the case. OF|C, higher than rated temp exhaust air is a concern, and could indicate a dodgy fan etc, but it's not a concern when speccing a PSU from brand new.

lol no offense taken,
at the time i know i was being very reckless, i knew full well that the power supply i was using was right at its peak when i was mid stressing the gpu.

but at the time, i couldn't afford a new one and the existing one was able to do the job for the period of time it needed to :)


edit: it wasn't a yumcha, it was a smart power 450. still doesn't miss a beat of course its used within its maximum draw these days.
