power supply question

ok i have a compaq 5000 (5423 us) with a compaq spider-d motherboard, i tried upgrading my power supply but the cable on the power supply is shorter than the socket on the motherboard, do they sell adapters? the power supply is a antec 400w

They do that to make people buy a psu from them. Dell also does this. Never heard of such an adapter.

in case anyone else runs into this problem i found a web site (highpowersupply.com) that makes conversion cables for 24 to 20 pin connectors and vice-versa.

I ordered an EPS12V PSU thinking it was the same as an ATX PSU but later discovered one has a 24 pin connector and the other has the standard 20 pins. Gotta be carefull using that converter becuase I think I read something somewhere online that it can harm you system.
