Default Low 3Dmark05 Scores when i o/c

Hello there,

I'm having trouble with my benchmark scores:-

i have the following setup:-

P4 3.2GHZ
Asus P5GDC Motherboard
1024MB DDR2
XFX 6600GT 128MB
400W PSU
200 & 300GB HD

When i run 3Dmark05 on standard CPU settings (3.2 GHZ) i get a score of around 3660

When i overclock the CPU through the BIOS (3.5 or 3.6GHZ) i get a score of around 3500

I know that 3Dmark05 is dependant mostly on the Video card not the CPU but surely the score shouldn't be getting lower?? please help me!

P.s. In the BIOS for my motherboard i am using a preset overclocking feature which allows you to overclock in increments 5%, 10% etc- this also adjusts the FSB frequency for you. Is this the best way to overclock?

The automatic overclock likely causes changes in FSB that reduce RAM speed, causing your 3DMark score to go down.

No, this isn't the best way to overclock. In fact it can be quite bad. You should do it manually, though in your situation, I wouldn't be doing it at all.
