Default Athlon 64 3000+ vs Athlon64 X2 3800+?

I am thinking of upgrading my CPU which is currently an Athlon 64 3000+ (socket 939) to an Athlon 64 X2 3800+. I have heard alot of good things about the X2's and i am a die hard gamer who loves to run graphics on high. So i guess my main question would be is it worth it? My current set up is below.

Athlon 64 3000+
ASUS A8N5X mobo
Corsair XMS 2-2-2-5 (2 x 512Mb)
Audigy 2 zs Platinum
WD 160Gb HDD SATA
BFG Geforce 6600 GT (soon to be a 7800 GT or 7800 GTX)
Antec 500watt p/s

For gaming alone, it probably isn't worth it. But the boost you get when multitaskin and in multithreaded applications is definitely worth it. If you ever leaev anything running when you game or at least want to, then it will be worth it.
