Question Blue Screen of Death

I'm getting a problem with Blue Screens of Death (BSOD) in Vista 32 bit. They happen when I start up, about 2 seconds into the Windows progress bar phase, every time. Occasionally I also get graphics corruption on the Shuttle logo screen at boot.

I have found that if I remove either stick of RAM then everything is fine (every time). This only happens with both sticks in. I have used the 'Optimised Defaults' in the BIOS and I suspect, with some guidance, I need to change the settings relating to the memory to make the system stable.

Here is my configuration:

Shuttle SG33G5 Barebone Black
Western Digital Caviar 500GB S300 16mb 7200rpm
LiteOn 20X DVD+/-RW/RAM L/S Retail Multi Bezel
Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 S775 2.33ghz 4mb Cache 1333FSB
OCZ Platinum DDR2 PC6400 2048MB KIT, w/two 1024MB PC6400 XTC,CL4-4-4-15, Rev2

Any ideas?

Paul

Try changing the DDR2 voltage from auto to 2.0v or what ever is closer to the maximum listed on your ram to see if that helps when I was using my OCZ ram I had some problems with it until I increased the ram voltage to 2.0v after that it was fine.

It's a memory voltage issue with the OCZ, try setting the memory voltage to 2.2v
it should solve the problem.

Question Re: Blue Screen of Death

I managed to get it working - indeed it was the RAM voltage. I set it to 1.9, as per the memory spec, and it worked flawlessly.

Out of interest, when the setting is left at AUTO, what does it set the voltage to? Obviously not 1.9!

Regards

Paul

Smile Re: Blue Screen of Death

Don't worry. At work I use Red Hat, Suse, Ubuntu, AIX, Solaris and HPUX as well as Windows in fairly equal proportions!

I still have to use WinXP at work but currently at home its a window free zone which I much prefer a lot less problems that way.
